BASEketball (released in theaters on July 31, 1998) follows Coop (Trey Parker) and Remer (Matt Stone), two slack-jawed, unemployed slacker best friends in Milwaukee who invent a hybrid playground game combining baseball rules with basketball shooting mechanics to beat some arrogant jocks at a party.
The makeshift game quickly becomes a neighborhood sensation, catching the attention of aging billionaire tycoon Ted Denslow (Ernest Borgnine).
Denslow finances the creation of the National BASEketball League (NBL), a professional sports circuit built on the strict rule that teams can never move cities and players can never be traded for money.
Coop and Remer become superstars leading their team, the Milwaukee Beers, alongside their diminutive, constantly abused teammate Squeak “Scoops” Scolari (Dian Bachar).
The plot shifts into high gear when Denslow unexpectedly chokes to death on a hot dog, leaving control of the team to Coop in his will, provided the Milwaukee Beers win the upcoming Championship game.
If they lose, ownership reverts to Denslow’s scheming widow, Yvette (Jenny McCarthy), and rival team owner Baxter Cain (Robert Vaughn), a greedy corporate mogul who wants to ruin the league’s pure foundation by introducing commercialization, trades, and franchise relocations.
Cain and Yvette attempt to sabotage the team’s chemistry by using Jenna Reed (Yasmine Bleeth), the head of a children’s charity, to drive a romantic wedge between Coop and Remer.
The narrative culminates in a hilarious, high-stakes Championship game in Dallas, where a fractured Coop and Remer must repair their friendship, execute legendary psychological “psyche-outs,” and win the game to save the league from corporate greed.

BASEketball grossed $3.1 million on its opening weekend, finishing 11th at the box office. The highest grossing film of the weekend was Saving Private Ryan, which earned $23.6 million on its second weekend.
The film would gross $7 million in its theatrical run.
Roger Ebert gave BASEketball one and a half out of four stars in his review.
