Most Wanted (released in theaters on October 10, 1997) charges forward as a high-octane conspiracy thriller packed with explosive set pieces, government betrayal, and non-stop paranoia. Directed by David Hogan and written by its star, Keenen Ivory Wayans, the story follows James Dunn (Wayans), a decorated Marine sniper sentenced to death following a tragic incident in the Gulf War where he refused to shoot an innocent child.

On the way to death row, Dunn is recruited by Lt. Colonel Grant Casey (Jon Voight), the ruthless leader of the “Blackguard,” a top-secret covert military unit that carries out extrajudicial assassinations in the name of national security.

Granted a clean slate, Dunn is tasked with taking down a corrupt military industrialist during a high-profile public event in Los Angeles.

The mission turns out to be a deadly setup when the First Lady of the United States is assassinated instead, and Dunn is framed as the lone gunman.

Realizing he has been scapegoated by Casey and the Blackguard to cover up a high-level government conspiracy, Dunn narrowly escapes a military kill squad.

On the run as the nation’s most wanted fugitive, he seeks out Dr. Victoria Constantini (Jill Hennessy), a doctor who accidentally videotaped the assassination and captured the real shooter on film.

As military operatives, government handlers, and media figures led by high-ranking officials like General Woodward (Robert Culp) and government operative Spencer (Eric Roberts) hunt them down, Dunn relies on assistance from key allies, including trusted military contacts.

Partnering with Constantini, Dunn uses his elite tactical training to evade capture, expose the footage to honest authorities like CIA Director Ken Rackmill (Paul Sorvino), and execute a dangerous counter-attack to bring Casey’s shadow organization down.

Wolfgang Bodison, Simon Baker, Michael Milhoan, Eddie Velez, and John Diehl round out the supporting cast.
