My Girl is a poignant coming-of-age film that has captured the hearts of audiences for over three decades. Released on Nov. 27, 1991, the movie follows the life of Vada Sultenfuss, a precocious 11-year-old girl navigating the complexities of adolescence, family, and loss.

A Cast of Young Stars

The film features a stellar cast of young actors, including Anna Chlumsky in her breakout role as Vada. Her portrayal of a quirky, intelligent, and often morbidly curious girl is both charming and heartbreaking.

Macaulay Culkin, fresh off his success in Home Alone, plays Vada’s best friend, Thomas J., a shy and sensitive boy.

Their on-screen chemistry is undeniable, and their friendship forms the emotional core of the film.

A Tale of Loss and Love

The film sensitively explores Vada’s coping mechanisms, including her fascination with death and her fear of losing loved ones.

The film also delves into the complexities of young love, as Vada and Thomas J. navigate their budding feelings for each other. Their first kiss, a tender and innocent moment, is one of the most memorable scenes in the movie.

The film opened at No. 2 at the box office, trailing The Addams Family in its second weekend with $20.1 million and besting Disney’s Beauty and the Beast with $12.3 million in its third weekend.
