Action Jackson grossed $5.4 million opening on President’s Day weekend, finishing in third place behind Good Morning Vietnam ($9 million) starring Robin Williams and Shoot To Kill ($5.8 million) starring Sidney Poitier and Tom Berenger and ahead of Three Men and a Baby starring Tom Selleck, Steve Guttenberg and Ted Danson.
The film would gross $20.3 million in its theatrical run and would add an estimated $45 million on home video to give the film $65 million on its $7 million budget.
Joe Leydon gave the film a positive review, saying “This is slambang escapism, rude and rambunctious, impure and simple. As such, it’s the best Saturday night movie since Lethal Weapon.”
