You, Me and Dupree, released in theaters on July 14, 2006, is a charmingly chaotic comedy that explores the boundaries of friendship, marriage, and personal space. Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, the film takes a lighthearted look at how an unexpected houseguest can turn a newlywed couple’s perfect life upside down, leading to a series of escalating mishaps and a surprising journey of self-discovery.

Carl Peterson (Matt Dillon) and Molly Thompson (Kate Hudson) are a perfectly happy newlywed couple, seemingly embarking on their dream life. However, their idyllic existence is abruptly interrupted when Carl’s best friend, Randy Dupree (Owen Wilson), loses his job, his car, and his apartment all in one day.

Feeling obligated, Carl reluctantly invites Dupree to stay with them “just for a few days.” Dupree, with his laid-back, unconventional lifestyle, quickly overstays his welcome, turning their pristine home into a frat house, charming Molly, and driving a wedge between the newlyweds.

As Dupree’s presence becomes increasingly disruptive, Carl tries desperately to get rid of him, leading to hilarious and often uncomfortable situations that force everyone to re-evaluate their relationships and priorities.

Wilson delivers a classic performance as Dupree. He perfectly embodies the character’s free-spirited nature, his endearing charm, and his oblivious ability to cause chaos. Wilson’s signature laid-back delivery and his knack for physical comedy make Dupree a lovable, if exasperating, force of nature.

Hudson is wonderful as Molly, the patient and eventually exasperated wife who initially finds Dupree charming but quickly reaches her breaking point. Hudson brings a relatable blend of warmth and frustration to the role, balancing Dupree’s antics.

Dillon provides a strong performance as Carl, the uptight and controlling husband whose life is thrown into disarray by Dupree’s presence. Dillon effectively portrays Carl’s escalating irritation and his struggle to maintain control, making him a sympathetic figure amidst the madness.

Michael Douglas plays Mr. Thompson, Molly’s demanding and disapproving father, who is also Carl’s boss. Douglas brings a formidable presence, adding to Carl’s stress.

Seth Rogen appears as Neil, one of Dupree’s friends, contributing to the film’s comedic ensemble.

In a memorable cameo, the late Harry Dean Stanton adds his unique, understated charm as Curly.
