Tron (1982) A groundbreaking science fiction film, Tron saw Bridges step into the digital world as Kevin Flynn, a computer programmer who gets digitized and enters the Grid. Its innovative visuals and unique concept made it a cult classic. Bruce Boxleitner and Cindy Morgan (Caddyshack) co-starred.

Mid-Decade: Romance, Thrillers, and Sci-Fi Return

Against All Odds (1984) Bridges starred in this romantic thriller as a professional football player alongside Rachel Ward and James Woods that is set amongst the LA elite. Taylor Hackford directed the film that also featured Richard Widmark, Swoozie Kurtz, Alex Karras, Dorian Harewood and Jane Greer.

Starman (1984) A heartwarming and thought-provoking science fiction romance, Starman saw Bridges nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor. His portrayal of the alien visitor was both charming and poignant. John Carpenter (Halloween, Escape from New York) directed the film that also starred Karen Allen and Charles Martin Smith.

Jagged Edge (1985) A legal thriller with Glenn Close, Jagged Edge kept audiences guessing with its twists and turns. Bridges plays a millionaire accused of murdering his wife. Robert Loggia, Peter Coyote and James Karen co-starred. Joe Eszterhas (Basic Instinct) wrote the screenplay.

The Morning After (1986) Bridges co-starred with Jane Fonda in this thriller about a washed-up actress who wakes up next to a murdered man. Raul Julia (Tequila Sunrise, Presumed Innocent) co-starred in the film directed by Sidney Lumet (Network, Serpico, The Verdict).

Late 80s: Drama, Comedy, and Musical Flair

Nadine (1987) A lighthearted crime comedy with Kim Basinger, Nadine offered a change of pace for Bridges, showcasing his comedic timing. Rip Torn co-starred. Robert Benton (Kramer vs. Kramer, Places in the Heart) directed the film.

See You in the Morning (1989) A drama exploring the complexities of remarriage and family life, the film provided Bridges with another opportunity to delve into character-driven storytelling. Alice Krige, Farrah Fawcett, Drew Barrymore and Macaulay Culkin also starred.

The Fabulous Baker Boys (1989) This critically acclaimed film, co-starring his brother Beau Bridges and Michelle Pfeiffer, is often considered one of Bridges’ best. His performance as the jaded piano player Jack Baker earned him another Academy Award nomination.
