The Bodyguard opened at No. 3 with $16.6 million for its initial weekend trailing Home Alone 2: Lost in New York ($28.6 million) and Aladdin ($19.3 million).

The Bodyguard ultimately grossed $121.9 million domestically, and $410.9 million worldwide. Only Dances with Wolves ($424.2 million) grossed more among Costner’s movies where he is in a lead role.

The film’s accompanying soundtrack by Houston became the best-selling soundtrack album of all time, with sales of over 50 million copies worldwide, and won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year, while the singles I Have Nothing and Run to You received nominations for the Academy Award for Best Original Song.
