An Eye for An Eye, released in theaters on August 14, 1981, is a classic Chuck Norris action film that delivers exactly what fans expect: martial arts mastery, relentless pursuit of justice, and a compelling narrative of revenge. Directed by Steve Carver, this movie is a gritty and impactful entry in Norris’s filmography, showcasing his signature blend of stoicism and explosive action.
San Francisco narcotics detective Sean Kane’s world is shattered when his partner, Dave Pierce, is brutally murdered by a ruthless drug cartel. When the police department’s hands are tied by legal complexities and corruption, Kane resigns and embarks on a personal mission to avenge his partner’s death.
Dave’s girlfriend, Linda, a determined journalist navigates the dangerous underworld and her investigative prowess leads her to discovering who was responsible for his death and when she finds the evidence, she is also murdered.
Norris delivers a focused and intense performance as Kane. His stoic demeanor perfectly suits the character’s grim determination, and his martial arts prowess is, as always, the highlight of the action sequences. Norris embodies the quiet fury of a man driven by a personal vendetta, making his quest for justice feel earned and impactful.
The film boasts a strong supporting cast that enhances its dramatic weight led by the legendary Christopher Lee, who provides a chillingly sophisticated presence as Morgan Canfield, the enigmatic and ruthless head of the drug operation. Lee brings a gravitas to the villain that makes him a truly formidable adversary for Norris.
Richard Roundtree adds a cool presence as Captain Stevens, Kane’s former superior at the San Francisco P.D.
Mako is excellent as James Chan, Linda’s father who is a skilled martial arts instructor and aids Kane in his investigation.
Further rounding out the cast are Matt Clark as Tom McCoy, Kane’s friend on the police force and the imposing Professor Toru Tanaka as the formidable henchman, the Professor.
Terry Kiser has a small role as Dave, while Rosalind Chao appears in an early role as Linda.
